Preview of one of the General’s stories:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Kent H. Hillhouse United States Army, for gallantry in action involving close combat against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. First Lieutenant Hillhouse distinguished himself by exceptional valor on 6 January 1968.
On January 6thserving as a Platoon Leader with 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment Lt Hillhouse conducted a “reconnaissance in force mission” southwest of Loc Ninh. During this mission the armored column came under intense hostile fire from well-fortified bunkers. Lieutenant Hillhouse immediately had his tank overrun a bunker to relieve pressure on the lead vehicle. While clearing a path for an armored flamethrower vehicle, Lieutenant Hillhouse's tank was suddenly taken under heavy fire at point plank range. He courageously silenced the enemy force with his own personal weapon. This enabled the flamethrower vehicle to get through and eliminate fortified positions.
After calling in an air strike, Lieutenant Hillhouse further disregarded his personal safety to lead his platoon in a sweep of the area to rout any remaining enemy soldiers. First Lieutenant Hillhouse's extraordinary heroism in close combat against a Viet Cong force was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
Hors d'oeuvres will be for sale at the event for $15 (plus tax).
